Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day! On December 31st, 2012, President Obama proclaimed January 2013 as National Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Month. And as we begin a new year, we also mark the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, a powerful reminder to rededicate ourselves to bringing an end to human trafficking in our cities, our states, and our country as a whole.

To celebrate this important day, here are some ways YOU can get involved and make a difference in the fight against trafficking.

  1. Educate yourself. What IS human trafficking? Who is being trafficked? Where does the trafficking happen? Polaris Project is a great resource on trafficking and the organizations fighting against it in every state. You can also find national and local statistics on Wellspring Living’s website.
  2. Spread the word! Once you are educated, share the facts and statistics with others! The more people who know about human trafficking, the more voices we have against it. Host a party, join the Speaker’s Bureau, or share at your church.
  3. Volunteer! Organizations like Wellspring Living rely on volunteer power; we simply could not do without it! You can serve in one of the residential homes, work in a Wellspring Treasures store, volunteer for our special events, and more!
  4. Give. Every donation we receive goes to change the lives of girls and women in need. You can sponsor a life, give a one-time gift, or donate to Wellspring Treasures. The options are endless, the choice is yours!
